The night passed very peacefully at the station and we also got to thank the manager in person.
We set off and after a couple of kilometres to get back on track, we start to climb up a cart track that climbs into the swamp.
Almost at the top, it starts to rain and we have to stop to ‘get dressed’, but today new friends are waiting in ambush: midges.
They are hematophagous midges, very aggressive, and are typical of these parts.
We take out our face nets, but they are of little use, the only one is to run away quickly.
We arrive at Corrour station, built in the middle of the Highlands in the late 1800s, mainly for tourism reasons.
It is now used as a restaurant\/b&b and we obviously take advantage of it, as we won’t find anything else for the next 90 kilometres.
A scene from the famous 1990s cult film ‘Trainspotting’ was filmed here, so I take the opportunity for a quick visit to the little wooden bridge that the protagonists cross.
A couple of ball tosses to one of the restaurant’s beautiful dogs and we’re back on the road.
We proceed for most of the day between up and down and countless narrow and long lakes, they call them ‘Lochs’.
A shy sun peeped through the clouds and accompanied us all day, but just before the attack of the last climb, it starts to rain again.
The last part of the climb is tremendous, steep and rocky, it rains and the midges don’t leave us alone, covering us with red dots.
We somehow manage to get to the top and descend to the village of Fort Augustus, a place full of tourists as it overlooks Lochness.
We discovered that there is not just one monster, but millions: the cursed little insects that don’t let up for a moment and harass us throughout dinner at the campsite.
It’s going to be a rough night\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La nottata \u00e8 trascorsa molto tranquillamente nella stazione ed abbiamo anche avuto modo di ringraziare di persona il gestore.
Partiamo e dopo un paio di chilometri per tornare in traccia, iniziamo a salire su una carrareccia che si inerpica nella palude.
Arrivati quasi in cima, inizia a piovere e ci dobbiamo fermare per “vestirci”, ma oggi dei nuovi amici ci aspettano in agguato: i midges.
Sono dei moscerini ematofagi, molto aggressivi, e sono tipici di queste parti.
Tiriamo fuori le retine da viso, ma non servono a molto, l’unica \u00e8 scappare veloci.
Arriviamo alla stazione di Corrour, costruita in mezzo alle Highlands alla fine dell’800, soprattutto per motivi di turismo.
Adesso \u00e8 adibita a ristorante\/b&b ed ovviamente ne approfittiamo, dato che non troveremo niente altro per i prossimi 90 chilometri.
In queste luogo \u00e8 stata girata una scena del famoso cult degli anni ’90 “Trainspotting”, ne approfitto quindi per una visita veloce al ponticino di legno che i protagonisti attraversano.
Un paio di lanci di palla ad uno dei bellissimi cani del ristorante e ci rimettiamo in cammino.
Si procede per quasi tutto il giorno tra su e gi\u00f9 ed innumerevoli laghi stretti e lunghi, li chiamano “Loch”.
Un timido sole ha fatto capolino tra le nuvole e ci ha accompagnato per tutto il giorno, ma subito prima dell’attacco dell’ultima salita, ricomincia a piovere.
L’ultima parte di salita \u00e8 tremenda, ripida e scassata, piove ed i midges non ci lasciano in pace, ricoprendoci di puntini rossi.
Riusciamo in qualche modo ad arrivare in cima ed a scendere fino al paese di Fort Augustus, luogo pieno di turisti in quanto affacciato sul lago di Lochness.
Abbiamo scoperto che di mostro non ce n’\u00e8 uno solo, ma milioni: i maledetti insettini che non mollano un attimo e ci tartassano per tutta la cena in campeggio.
