Drinks and various foodstuffs are taken and consumed at the table of a shop opposite, which is still closed, and off we go, immediately uphill.
After a couple of kilometres of asphalt, the road enters a beautiful forest full of mushrooms, including large porcini!
The landscape is somewhat spoilt by the presence of the high-tension pylons that will accompany us for a long time today.
The second climb is tough, with a very bumpy surface and deadly ramps, but the scenery is absolutely fantastic, with a couple of lakes at different heights and several streams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stomachs begin to growl, but luckily we reach the 545m altitude of the ‘high point’ (under water) and plunge downhill, reaching a village where two beef burgers with chips, two coffees and a sticky toffee pudding await us.
The last effort of the day is another straight uphill climb, followed by some pushing sections under water and muddied by midges, and then a piece of ridge road full of puddles and mud.
To end on a high note, Mara, enraptured by the purple-coloured mountains, puts a wheel in a foul and falls. Nothing serious, fortunately, just a scraped knee.
We arrive at the campsite at Contin without any more problems, but alas, the adjacent market is just closed.
Whatever, we’ll make do with the village fry shop.
Nooooo! They had to close a little early due to technical problems\u2026.
Tonight we do like naughty children: we go to bed without supper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il risveglio \u00e8 brutale: prima di aprire il telo interno a rete della tenda, devo spiaccicare le migliaia di midgets che nella notte hanno provato ad entrare senza successo (sono parecchio tonti).
Spero che l’equilibrio naturale abbia designato un ruolo fondamentale per questi esseri, dato che, se non ci fosse, sarebbero anche inutili oltrech\u00e9 fastidiosi.
Decidiamo (saggiamente) di evitare la solita colazione in campeggio e torniamo a Fort Augustus, fermandoci al market, unico posto gi\u00e0 aperto per un caff\u00e8.
Bevande e cibarie varie prese e consumate al tavolino di un negozio di fronte ancora chiuso e si parte, subito in salita.
Dopo un paio di chilometri di asfalto, la strada entra in un bel bosco pieno di funghi, compresi grossi porcini!
Il paesaggio \u00e8 un po’ rovinato dalla presenza dei tralicci dell’alta tensione che ci accompagneranno per molto tempo oggi.
La seconda salita \u00e8 tosta, con fondo molto smosso e rampe mortali, ma il panorama \u00e8 assolutamente fantastico, con un paio di laghi ad altezze diverse e diversi corsi d’acqua.
Gli stomaci iniziano a brontolare, ma per fortuna raggiungiamo i 545 metri di quota del “punto alto” (sotto l’acqua) e ci buttiamo in discesa, raggiungendo un paese dove due beef burgers con chips, due caff\u00e8 ed un sticky toffee pudding ci aspettano.
L’ultima fatica della giornata \u00e8 un’altra salita dritta per dritta, seguita da dei tratti a spinta sotto l’acqua ed impestati dai midges, per poi proseguire con un pezzo di strada di crinale piena di pozze e fango.
Per chiudere in bellezza, Mara, rapita dalle montagne colorate di viola, mette una ruota in fallo e cade. Niente di grave, per fortuna, solo un ginocchio sbucciato.
Arriviamo al campeggio a Contin senza altri problemi, ma ahim\u00e8 il market adiacente \u00e8 appena chiuso.
Vabb\u00e8, ci accontenteremo della friggitoria del paese.
