Lingua italiana sotto<\/em><\/p>\n

The night passes fairly peacefully at the Sunflower campsite in Savudrija. Dinner the night before, a bit less so. We cooked up some pasta, but had no oil and didn’t want to buy 250g of butter we’d end up throwing away, so: pasta with salt, sadness, and a wedge of cheese.<\/p>\n

The campsite is nice, but gives off a bit of a pre-’89 Soviet-colony vibe, and the staff have roughly the same cheerfulness as Marvin the Paranoid Android.<\/p>\n

We start “striking the tent,” but first, a visit to the market. 1km and 195m on foot (still inside the campsite) and there it is, in all its shipping-container glory: Minimarket Briciola.<\/p>\n

To open the door, they have to move the frozen-food display case out of the way, otherwise there’s no room. I buy “almost everything,” and 1km and 195m later I realize I forgot milk and yogurt…<\/p>\n

We leave late and immediately tackle a stretch of uphill main road, but before long we’re back on track, on the crumbling Parenzana, an old narrow-gauge railway line that used to run from Trieste to Pore\u010d.<\/p>\n

It’s very hot and we decide to stop early for lunch at a small village’s market. This is an unmissable feature of our trips: exploring supermarkets is a great way to get a feel for local customs, and every country is different.<\/p>\n

In this one, a lady \u2014 by mistake or on purpose \u2014 tried to take our shopping cart, then apologized in Italian.<\/p>\n

We buy a baby watermelon and, in our usual scruffy-traveler style, eat it sitting on fruit crates outside the shop: maybe it’s the heat, but it’s genuinely the best one ever.<\/p>\n

We set off again and the road just keeps getting worse, full of crumbled gravel, but also full of tunnels and viaducts.<\/p>\n

The day’s last surprise arrives soon: 2km at 9% grade in scorching heat, climbing up to the campsite at the foot of MotoVruuum (for the sane among us, Motovun).<\/p>\n

Luckily the tiny campsite has all the comforts: spotless bathrooms, a usable kitchen, and a little pool where Nora has an absolute blast doing jumps with dad!<\/p>\n

Toward evening, two Italian guys from Milan show up too, doing the same route as us.<\/p>\n

Just enough time to chat for a bit, and then off to bed!<\/p>\n

Briciola ed il suo market<\/h1>\n

La nottata scorre abbastanza tranquilla al Sunflower di Savudrija. La cena precedente un po’ meno. Ci siamo cotti una pasta, ma non avevamo l’olio e non volevamo comprare 250g di burro che avremmo buttato, quindi pasta sale odiato, tristezza e formaggino.<\/p>\n

Il camping \u00e8 bello, ma d\u00e0 un po’ l’idea di colonia sovietica pre ’89 e chi ci lavora ha la stessa allegria dell’androide Marvin.<\/p>\n

Iniziamo a “levare la tenda”, ma prima una visita al market. 1km e 195m a piedi (sempre dentro il campeggio) e lo vedo l\u00ec nel suo splendore di container: Minimarket Briciola.<\/p>\n

Per aprire la porta, devono far uscire la vetrina dei surgelati, altrimenti non c’\u00e8 spazio. Compro “quasi tutto”, ed 1km e 195m dopo mi accorgo di non aver comprato latte e yogurt…<\/p>\n

Partiamo tardi e ci spariamo subito un pezzo di statale in salita, ma nel giro di poco siamo di nuovo in traccia, sulla scassata Parenzana, una vecchia linea ferroviaria a scartamento ridotto che da Trieste portava a Parenzo.<\/p>\n

\u00c8 molto caldo e decidiamo di fermarci presto per pranzo al market di un paesino. Questa \u00e8 una caratteristica immancabile dei nostri viaggi. L’esplorazione dei supermercati serve un po’ a capire le usanze ed ogni paese \u00e8 differente.<\/p>\n

In questo, una signora, per sbaglio o per intenzione, ha provato a prenderci il carrello, scusandosi poi in italiano.<\/p>\n

Compriamo un baby cocomero e nel nostro zingaresco modo, lo consumiamo seduti sulle cassette della frutta di fronte al negozio: sar\u00e0 il caldo, ma \u00e8 veramente quello pi\u00f9 buono di sempre.<\/p>\n

Ci rimettiamo in marcia ed il percorso \u00e8 sempre peggio, pieno di sassi sbriciolati, per\u00f2 \u00e8 pieno di tunnel e viadotti.<\/p>\n

L’ultima sorpresa del giorno arriva presto: 2km al 9% con un caldo infernale per salire al campeggio ai piedi di MotoVruuum (per i normali di testa, Motovun).<\/p>\n

Per fortuna il minuscolo camping ha tutti i comfort: bagni perfetti, una cucina usabile ed una piccola piscina nella quale Nora si diverte tantissimo a fare i tuffi con babbo!<\/p>\n

Arrivano verso sera anche due ragazzi italiani di Milano che stanno facendo il nostro percorso.<\/p>\n
