Having said goodbye to our Polish friends, we set off, this time with a little tear in our eye… the campsite really was lovely, and now our standards have shifted well above the usual “any spot for the tent will do” mindset. Who knows what tonight has in store for us…<\/p>\n

We skillfully weave through the narrow streets of a small village. Just enough time to end up in an olive grove and have to turn back, and we’re immediately on a nice dirt road running through a shady stretch of Mediterranean scrubland.<\/p>\n

We come across several cyclists along the way, mostly e-bikers, and pretty much everyone is amazed to see our little “caravan” going by on these dusty roads.<\/p>\n

Today’s route calls for a few kilometers heading east again, further inland, to loop around the Lim Channel \u2014 a kind of fjord where the rock drops straight down into the sea.<\/p>\n

Toward the end of the canyon, we’re forced back onto the fast, fairly busy paved road on the way down.<\/p>\n

We’re well aware that a fast descent is usually followed by a steep climb, and sure enough… nearly 5 km at 9%… not terrible, but still, ugh….<\/p>\n

The big problem is that it’s scorching hot and pretty much every car heading to Rovinj from the north passes right through here.<\/p>\n

Luckily there’s a side road that lets us dodge the last stretch and leads us straight to the start of another disused railway line. Every so often you can still spot its old rail ties.<\/p>\n

Lunchtime: the only solution is a detour of a couple of kilometers to “stumble upon” a market. It’s a shop we really like \u2014 it seems to have everything except food! Actually, if you turn a slightly hidden corner, it magically appears.<\/p>\n

By now we’re basically only craving fresh things and fruit, and we’re sick of sandwiches, so… don’t tell the farmer how good cheese with pears is (though it’s not bad with grapes either!).<\/p>\n

We spread out our picnic blanket, which by now has an ecosystem all its own, under the only shade in the parking lot, right in front of an SUV’s hood, and happily eat our meal.<\/p>\n

We set off again, and the last few kilometers are easy and fly by quickly.<\/p>\n

There’s an unexpected snag lying in wait, though: the campsite we’d chosen is full. At reception they suggest a nearby FKK site (one of those places where people are packed in like tuna in a can \u2014 minus the olive oil…), but the idea doesn’t exactly thrill us.<\/p>\n

We fall back on the “Amarin” campsite, where miraculously they have one free pitch, just for one night. Right from reception it’s a good sign: a welcome drink of “cucumber water.” Better Call Saul fans will know exactly what I mean…<\/p>\n

Day 6 – Picnic in famiglia<\/h1>\n

Salutati i nostri amici polacchi, partiamo, questa volta con una lacrimuccia… il camping era davvero bello e adesso abbiamo settato i nostri standard su livelli pi\u00f9 alti del solito “tanto basta un posto per la tenda” e quant’altro. Chiss\u00e0 cosa ci aspetter\u00e0 stanotte…<\/p>\n

Ci districhiamo abilmente tra le stradine di un paesino. Giusto il tempo di finire in un campo di olivi e dover tornare indietro e siamo subito su una bella strada sterrata che corre in un bosco di macchia mediterranea abbastanza ombroso.<\/p>\n

Incontriamo diversi ciclisti sul percorso, perlopi\u00f9 ebikers, e praticamente tutti si stupiscono a veder passare la nostra “carovana” su queste strade polverose.<\/p>\n

Il percorso di oggi prevede alcuni chilometri di nuovo verso est, quindi verso l’interno, per girare intorno al Limski kanal, una specie di fiordo in cui la roccia si tuffa a picco sul mare.<\/p>\n

Sul finire del canyon, siamo costretti a rientrare sulla veloce strada asfaltata in discesa, abbastanza trafficata.<\/p>\n

Siamo consapevoli che nella maggior parte dei casi dopo una veloce discesa c’\u00e8 una ripida salita e infatti… quasi 5 km al 9%… non terribile, ma insomma….<\/p>\n

Il problema grosso \u00e8 che \u00e8 caldissimo e praticamente tutte le macchine che vanno a Rovinj dal nord passano di qui.<\/p>\n

Per fortuna c’\u00e8 una strada laterale che ci fa scansare l’ultimo tratto e ci guida fino all’attacco di un’altra ferrovia dismessa. Di questa appaiono di tanto in tanto anche le longarine.<\/p>\n

Ora di pranzo: l’unica soluzione \u00e8 una deviazione di un paio di chilometri per “imbattersi” in un market. \u00c8 un negozio che ci piace, sembra abbia di tutto tranne che il cibo! In realt\u00e0, girando un angolino un po’ nascosto, appare magicamente.<\/p>\n

Abbiamo praticamente solo fame di cose fresche e frutta ed i panini ci hanno stancato, quindi… al contadino non far sapere quanto \u00e8 buono il cacio con le pere (ma non \u00e8 male nemmeno con l’uva!).<\/p>\n

Stendiamo la nostra coperta da pic-nic, che ormai contiene un ecosistema proprio, sotto l’unica ombra del parcheggio, direttamente davanti al cofano di un SUV e consumiamo allegramente il nostro pasto.<\/p>\n

Si riparte, ma gli ultimi chilometri sono facili e scorrono veloce.<\/p>\n

C’\u00e8 per\u00f2 un imprevisto in agguato: il campeggio che abbiamo scelto \u00e8 pieno. Alla reception ce ne suggeriscono uno vicino FKK (\u00e8 uno di quelli dove la gente \u00e8 come il tonno in scatola che non contiene olio d’oliva…), ma non ci entusiasma l’idea.<\/p>\n

Ripieghiamo quindi sul campeggio “Amarin” dove miracolosamente hanno una piazzola libera solo per una notte. Gi\u00e0 dalla reception promette bene: drink di benvenuto con “cucumber-water”. I fan di “Better Call Saul” sapranno cosa intendo…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
